moving with 2under5

Hi! I hope you are all doing well! It's been a minute since I've written a blog post or email, and the main reason being, we've moved! (Again!)

I'm writing you in November of 2021. We spent the last year/ Covid Lockdown in Burbank, California. My husband's job moved us from Denver in early 2020, which was supposed to be an incredible opportunity. With everything ultimately moving towards permanent work-from-home, and spending a year in lockdown with 2 kids under 5, we moved out of LA to my husband's hometown outside of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

("But Sarah Ann! You're a city mouse"- you might be thinking if we've ever had the pleasure of meeting.

"Yes. I know" - I would tell you.)

I don't know if this is a permanent situation for our family but it has certainly been the best one for right now. We live in a lovely subdivision with some really wonderful people. Our kids have gone from being homeschooled with me and seeing friends once a month to playing outside in a cul-de-sac with a precious group of cohorts all Summer. We spent many weekend trips to the big lake, took advantage of family childcare, and have seen lots of family and friends in a small break from this horrific pandemic.

This also being said, I am so grateful for my incredible clients who came with me on this extreme journey. I don't recommend cross-country moves with toddlers and no childcare, let alone more than one in a calendar year. If you find yourself in a similar situation I can only recommend you let go of all parenting expectations and get comfortable with lots of screentime. (Shout to the creators of PBS kids and Disney+, really couldn't have done it without you.)

We are settling in to our new home and enjoying a slower pace of life and the change of seasons. I'm sure many of you have had to make big changes during this difficult times as well. In many ways I've felt as though as our lives were flipped up in a tornado and we've made it back down on the ground. I think all parents who had to keep our kids home and safe deserve a medal and a free childless trip to the Caribbean for the next four years.

How has your life changed since 2020? Did it change in a positive way? Has the way you parent changed? Please share in the comments below! I really would love to hear how you are doing!
